When we think about controlling our weight (and therefore our health) we think about two factors: food and excercise. But, there are two things not commonly associated that have recently been shown to have an impact. Water and Sleep.
The advice on water runs the gamut from "drink 2 L per day" to "drink when you are thirsty". The truth is that most of us are mildly dehydrated and dehydration, no matter how mild, factors in to both fatigue and the hunger signal. The sensory notification of either state is: feed me! No matter where you are starting from, it will pay off to add just one more glass (or litre).
Sleep is a tougher one to figure out. We do know that those who sleep less carry more weight but we don't know why. Could it be that a lack of sleep causes more stress signals within and that those stress signals tell you to eat PLUS hold on to the calories? Or is it that you are awake and perhaps bored for more hours and what better way to fill that time than with food?
Each of us has to figure out how to balance these factors for ourselves each and every day. How are you planning to manage both of these triggers?
